The second biggest group buying website in the world, LivingSocial, is now technically in South Africa. Although their website is not operational yet, they have started to acquire subscribers and advertise on Google, Facebook and other online channels. In other words, they are soon going to launch officially in South Africa.
LivingSocial is seen as the second largest collective buying site in the world, and is fast approaching Groupon on many fronts. Amazon.com is one of the main investors in LivingSocial, which is interesting, as a similar investment was made by South Africa’s eCommerce giant bidorbuy.co.za in UbuntuDeal. During August 2011, LivingSocial bought the top group buying website in Korea, which had eluded many attempts to being purchased before.
LivingSocial has also been crowned with the world’s largest group buying sale in history, where they offered a coupon for $10 that gave buyers $20 on Amazon. Over 1 million coupons were sold. So it is with must evidence that one can expect LivingSocial to enter South Africa with a bang, at least by late 2011. Here is a preview of what their South African website will look like, based on the global site itself.
